About James Coates Crafting small-town songs with big-city sounds, James Coates has spent 15 years connecting with audiences across the Pacific Northwest and around the country. Backed by a group of friends old and new, James Coates & His Band perform a signature blend of genres they affectionally refer to as “Funky Country & Americana Soul.” The sonic tapestry presented to audiences includes air-tight drums, thumpy bass, gritty electric guitar, playful keyboards, a 2-piece horn section, melodic harmonies and James’s soulful, raspy vocals. Coates inspires with beautifully-crafted original songs and entertains with unexpected covers, creating an experience that pleases both the heart and the ears.
